Speydicator - Fishing Ugly Water Well...

For those of you purist steelhead and spey fishermen, avert your eyes, what you are about to witness is nothing short of blasphemy... It's a spey line specifically designed for hucking *gasp* nymphs underneath an indicator!

Ahhh $#!+ it's the end of the world as you know it, or in my opinion the best thing for those of us who like to huck lots of weight around on switch rods to hit the market, how about ever?

A few of my buddies who shall go by pseudo names to protect their identity's on the coastal streams came up with this plan a few years back and were met with resistance by a lot of purists - but now it's here and we love it. They call it the Speydicator and it's the best double nymphs loaded with big splitties floated underneath a huge balloon indicator chucking line out there, period, no questions.

For those of you unfamiliar with this stuff, switch rods are like sawed off spey rods, they are typically between 10 1/2 and 11 1/2 feet and they are just perfect tools for covering lots of water on western trout streams (although that wasn't their original design). Up to this point you've had to throw a regular spey line on them, or skagit heads or hack up your own lines and manufacture something to do the deed.

But nothing really fit the bill for what these things are really deadly for - bombing 70-100 foot drifts through deep runs and heavy water. This is achieved of course with the length of the rod (close to 11 feet) and the ability to mend a pile of line - before this Speydicator line came along you just couldn't do it. With a skagit you had the ability to move the weight and flies just fine, but you couldn't mend it, with a standard spey line you didn't really have the mass to turn over a ton of weight and balloon style indicator needed to float all that weight. Enter my friends Shmick and Dandy.

Shmick and Dandy teamed up with the dudes at Airflo (the only progressive enough company to do this type of thing) and came up with this sick idea of delivering tons of weight at the end of a lengthy leader on a spey rod that would allow you to still mend 60+ feet of line. They have delivered.

The second generation of Speydicator's are on the shelves, pair perfectly with the Echo Switch and are just what the doctor ordered. Bam, that just happened. Thanks to Shmick Shatney and Shandy Diamond... Here's to lookin' up your address boys!

The Echo SR is a combat rod I love it! From tossing indies to tugging fur on the Erie Tribs you can't beat it, i watch the 14 footers either over shoot or find every low hanging branch behind them. Rad rod and a wicked color scheme too. How does the Speydicator throw throw the normal junk?

Bill - the Speydicator does a pretty good job of throwing most everything and if you add a tip on the front it swings pretty well too - probably the best all around spey line i've seen, that is if you don't mind bucking the trends a little bit...
